Courses

Background

The first course in fluid power at Politecnico di Torino began in 1979. The course Oleodinamica e Pneumatica (Fluid Power and Pneumatics - 120 hours) was offered at the last year of the 5-year Laurea degree in mechanical engineering until 2004 and covered the main aspects of fluid power components and systems: flow generation units, pressure and flow valves, end user units, hydrostatic  transmissions, load sensing systems, hydrostatic steering systems, proportional valves and servovalves.

With the introduction of the new university system, in 2003 it was split into two new 5-credit courses, Oleodinamica (Fluid Power) and Sistemi Oleodinamici (Fluid Power Systems). The first was a compulsory subject taught in the 3rd year of the first level degree in Torino and Mondovì until 2012, while the second was offered during the second level degree in Torino from 2005 to 2011. Both courses have been substituted by Fluid Power I (Mobile and Industrail Fluid Power from 2024) and Fluid Power II respectively (6 credits, in English), offered as eligible courses in the M.Sc.

At the II school of engineering in Vercelli, Oleodinamica e Pneumatica was held from 1995 to 2003, substituted by the 5-credit course Componenti e Sistemi Oleodinamici (Fluid Power Components and Systems) at the 2nd year of the M.Sc. until 2010.

Starting from 2004 the course Sistemi Oleodinamici per l'Autoveicolo (Fluid Power System for Motor Vehicles, from 2011 Automotive Fluid Power Systems) is an elective 6-credit course of the M. Sc. in Automotive Engineering. From 2009 it is taught in English.
