NICOLA NERVEGNA

Formerly Full Professor of Fluid Power (1942-2019)

He graduated in Nuclear Engineering in 1971 from Politecnico di Torino. He joined the Politecnico staff in October 1971 and served as Professor of Fluid Power for thirty years. He taught both B.Sc. and M.Sc. courses in Torino, Vercelli, and Mondovì.

His research interests were in the broad field of Fluid Power, with particular focus on positive displacement pumps, as well as the modeling, simulation, and testing of various hydraulic components.

He authored 94 scientific papers.

He was an SAE voting member from 1977, a member of the Scientific Board of "Cemoter", National Research Council, and a member of the Editorial Board of the International Journal of Fluid Power since its first issue in 2000.

After his retirement in November 2012, he dedicated himself with renewed enthusiasm to writing a book that would compile the valuable material from his years of teaching and research. He titled the book Some Steps into Fluid Power, which has been published in Italian under the title Passi nell’Oleodinamica.

Prof. Nervegna passed away on November 12, 2019, after a year-long battle with a terminal illness.

He was a remarkable professor and a reference point for colleagues and thousands of students in the field of Fluid Power.

We remember his passion for his work and the enthusiasm with which he delivered his lectures.

He truly changed the lives of many people.
